Research Use Only: What It Means and Why We Enforce It
24 October 2026

Everything we supply is labelled Research Use Only (RUO). Here's what that means and how we apply it.
What RUO means
RUO products are supplied for laboratory and in-vitro research. They are not medicines, have not been assessed or authorised by the MHRA, and are not manufactured to the standards required for human or veterinary products. They must not be used in or on humans or animals.
Why it matters in the UK
In the UK, products supplied for administration to people are regulated as medicines and require authorisation. Research chemicals are a different category, and suppliers have a responsibility not to market them as treatments. That's why we describe compounds by specification and handling only.
How we put this into practice
- We don't give dosing, administration or health advice, and we'll decline enquiries that ask for it.
- Our specifications cover identity, purity and handling, not effects in people.
- We describe product categories by research area only.
- We supply verified organisations by account only, and decline or cancel any order where there's an indication of human use.
- We ship only within the UK.
What we do provide
- Batch-specific Certificates of Analysis.
- Independent third-party test results where available.
- A lot number on every vial, traceable to our records.
